It took many weeks and big media pressure for FFM finally to get in touch with Adelaide United's star player of Macedonian origin, Sasa Ognenovski. The question mark is now gone, he choose to play for Macedonia over Australia. The 1.95m tall defender will be big reinforcement for Srečko Katanec's team as the national team had problems in the back line in the past few matches. Captain Goce Sedloski was surprisingly left out of the squad for the friendly match against Montenegro, and it is unknown if he will be recalled for the next friendly against Moldova. Eintracht Frankfurt's Aleksandar Vasoski has just recently recovered from his injury and hasn't played for the national team since the friendly against Poland in May last year. With Ognenovski in the squad, Katanec will have more options and will gain on quality. He will announce the final squad at the end of January. The friendly match against Moldova is going to be played in Antalya, Turkey on 11th of February.

Sasa Ognenovski is born on 3rd of April 1979 in Melbourne, Australia. His father is ethnic Macedonian, while his mother is Montenegrin. He started his career in the Macedonian-Australian club Preston Lions and has also played for Melbourne Knights, Fawkner-Whittlesea Blues, Queensland Roar and Adelaide United. He has spent one season (2002/2003) in Greece playing for Panachaiki. After the end of the current A-League season, he will join South Korean side Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma for whom he signed this month.

We are hoping that FFM won't stop here and will continue to collect the Macedonian football talents from abroad. Robert Stambolziev (18) from Bristol City (England), Jaison Naidovski (19) and Ben Kantarovski (16) both from Newcastle Jets (Australia) and many more, are still waiting to be contacted by the land they originate from, Macedonia.
