Gian Piero Gasperini, the former manager of Genoa, was recently hired by Inter to become the manager and it seems that the new Inter coach would like to bring his former player Rodrigo Palacio to the team.  Gasperini is known to prefer a 3-4-3 formation and the wingers in his system must run and the feeling is that Palacio is a better fit than Pandev who is best as a second striker.  For Palacio, Genoa would like Pandev in return but Goran has no interest in playing for Genoa and has refused the transfer.  Even the Genoa president, Enrico Preziosi, stated yesterday that whether Palacio will join Inter depends on Pandev accepting the move to Genoa.

However, Pandev is unlikely to change his mind as his preference is to remain with Inter but if he has to leave Inter, he would prefer a move to another country.  Pandev would like to play in the Champions League and Genoa is a mid table club that will not play in a European competition next season.  Pandev has a contract until the summer of 2014 with Inter but it seems he has worn out his welcome and Inter is looking to move Pandev to another team.  He was also linked to Spanish club Villarreal as a way for Inter to acquire striker Giuseppe Rossi.

Pandev is the most well known Macedonian football player but he has had a disappointing stint with Inter.  His tenure with Inter started pretty good as he was in solid form in his first couple of games but has since struggled as his goal to match ratio is not very good.  The Inter fans have been very critical of Pandev and want him gone as they don't think he has the quality to play for such a big club.  He has often been used as a winger that was asked to track back and help out on defense but that responsibility affected his nose for goal.  Pandev has also received heavy criticism for his finishing skills as he missed some huge chances that left Inter fans frustrated.  Even a good moment such as scoring the decisive goal against Bayern München in the Champions League has not helped Pandev with the Inter fans who continue to be critical of him so it might be best for Pandev to leave Inter since he will never be accepted by the fans.

Goran is the top scorer for the Macedonian national team with 23 goals in 59 appearances.  He was named captain after Goce Sedloski retired from the national team.  Lately, some Macedonian fans have also started to turn on Pandev for contemplating retirement from international duty and not performing up to his abilities during qualifying games.  His last nine goals have come during friendlies and Pandev hasn't scored a goal in a qualifier since 10 September 2008 against the Netherlands.  Pandev started his career with hometown club Belasica before he and Aco Stojkov moved to Inter when they were 18.  Pandev was then loaned to several clubs to gain experience but he mostly made his name during his time with Lazio from 2004 to 2010 before he was involved in a contract dispute with the Lazio owner which led to Pandev becoming a free agent and returning to Inter.  His biggest accomplishment in an Inter uniform was winning the Champions League trophy during the 2009-2010 season.
