Veteran midfielder Muhamed Demiri has been informed that his contract will not be renewed by Swiss club St. Gallen.

Defensive midfielder Muhamed Demiri, set to turn 30 years old later this year, will be looking for a new club this summer after St. Gallen has informed him that his expiring contract will not be renewed. This news is not surprising since Demiri has seen very little playing in the past couple of months. He has been a healthy exclusion for most of the games during the 2nd half of the season in Switzerland.

The lack of action also cost Muhamed his spot on the Macedonian national team. For the two March games, now former manager Boshko Gjurovski mentioned the playing time issues as the main reason that Demiri was excluded, despite the big problems in defensive midfield.

Demiri originally joined St. Gallen as a free agent in the summer of 2013. He came over from fellow Swiss club Thun. However, his time at St. Gallen was nowhere near as successful as Thun. Muhamed was once a key player at Thun, but he was never able to reach that status with St. Gallen.

The timing for his free agency may prove problematic. Given his age and lack of match fitness, Muhamed could have a difficult time attracting the kind of offer that he deems acceptable. We shall see where he winds up during the summer transfer window.

Demiri has spent all of his playing career in Swizterland. He began representing Macedonia's national team in 2010 when Mirsad Jonuz was the manager. Demiri has 25 caps to his name.
